MARQUETTE - A benefit to assist Christina Goodreau in her fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis - Lou Gehrig's disease - is planned for Oct. 27.
The event will be a spaghetti dinner and silent auction from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Michael Parish's Dunleavey Hall at 401 W. Kaye Ave. in Marquette.
The meal is spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and dessert for $8. Children 5 and under can eat for free.
Take-out will be available for those who call ahead of time. The number is 231-2452.
Goodreau was diagnosed with ALS on Aug. 1. It's a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. It is a terminal illness.
She needs assistance paying for fuel to provide power to her house as she lives in the woods with no electricity. She relies on a generator to power her house and with the equipment needed for her care, the generator is running all the time.
In addition to the propane charges for the generator, there is expense involved in trips she makes to Ann Arbor for appointments.
