MARQUETTE - Community members looking to involve themselves with weightlifting may now do so through the Northern Michigan University Weightlifting Club.

With an assist from the U.S. Olympic Education Center, the new program is an expansion on the current club team and offers more personalized training and hours.

USOEC head weightlifting coach Vince Newgard will lead the effort. Newgard holds numerous certifications in coaching, as well as strength and conditioning.

"We're making a real effort to involve the community," Newgard said in a press release. "Our goal is to introduce Olympic-style weightlifting to area residents, whether they're looking to build upon their fitness, or have aspirations to join the resident team in the future."

The registration fee is $70 for one NMU semester, or $130 for two. Members will also be registered with USA Weightlifting.

For more information, visit Room 126 in the PEIF on the NMU campus, or call Newgard at (906) 251-8567.
