MARQUETTE - The Northern Michigan University women's volleyball team swept the Finlandia Lions, 25-7, 25-4, 25-9, in a non-conference matchup Tuesday from Vandament Arena on the NMU campus to move to 13-6 overall.

"The establishment for this match was for our non-starters to get the opportunity to play in a competitive environment," NMU head coach Dominic Yoder said. "It's also a release for them, as we have had some stressful matches over the last few weeks."

Freshman Alexis Nelson led NMU with a match-high 16 kills. Junior Kalli Herron recorded seven kills, while junior Sarah Hamilton added five.

Junior Kellisha Harley came up with 33 assists and added three service aces. Junior Lina Lopes led the Wildcats in aces with four. Senior Kalin Zimmerman led with 11 digs.

NMU finished with 42 kills on the night compared to Finlandia's six.

For the Lions (1-13), Emma Cole of Gwinn led the team with three kills. Kristen Rose posted six digs, while Cole and Lauren Jarvinen added five.
