To the Journal editor:
As a resident of Marquette Township I am writing to urge other residents to vote in November for the millage to support the Peter White Public Library.
One reason my husband and I chose to retire to the Marquette area in 1997 was because of the great library available to us. Some weeks we are at the library four to five times to attend a meeting, a lecture, a movie or an art exhibit.
We order and check out books regularly from the library. The staff and space at the library are wonderful.
In 2010 the library won the National Medal for Museum and Library Service. Peter White was the smallest and had the lowest funding compared to the other recipients of the medal but the library provides outstanding service.
Some at the library did not believe that it was worthwhile to apply for the award because they were so small but a supporter urged them to pursue the award. They won!
The library is "For the Good of All." People can read magazines, use the computers, do research and have fun! The children's library in Peter White provides so many services for children in the area that stimulate learning.
The Arts and Culture Center is such an asset to the community. When the economy declines more people use the library to provide computer access, books and other services.
For all these reasons, I urge Marquette Township residents to vote for the millage.
