ROLLA, Mo. - The Northern Michigan University women's volleyball team wrapped up its second day of tournament action in Missouri with two five-game wins on Saturday.
The Wildcats' victories, both 3-2, came over Missouri-St. Louis and Southern Indiana. The triumphs moved NMU's season record to 7-2.
"We played with tremendous heart all weekend," NMU coach Dominic Yoder said. "I love the way we competed. "
Against Southern Indiana, the 'Cats rallied behind the dominance of Lina Lopes and Kallie Herron, who each recorded 16 kills in five games (19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10).
Teammate Kellisha Harley tallied 47 assists, while Alex Berger chipped in 21 digs. up 10 kills.
Against Missouri-St. Louis, NMU won by scores of 26-24, 21-25, 16-25, 25-20 and 15-13.
The Wildcats' Lisa Studnicka was a force in front of the net, pumping out 18 kills. Berger again led in digs with 18, while Harley tallied 50 assists.
"Kellisha and Alex have been defining the character of our team," Yoder said. "They're resilient and won't let us get down."
Missouri was led on offense by Liz Jaeger, who had 14 kills.
Next up, the Wildcats are scheduled to meet Saginaw Valley State University Friday at University Center.
