Rio Tinto will open its Eagle Mine Community Forum Series Tuesday at the Powell Township School in Big Bay, the first of five such sessions to be held through Sept. 26.
The 2-hour sessions are designed to provide communities with updates on the Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill and to take feedback and questions from the public. Rio Tinto Eagle Mine President Adam Burley said the company will also roll out its "community score card" initiative during the sessions.
Rio Tinto held a similar community forum series last year, which was well-attended, informative and provided great dialogue between the mining company and the public, including some of the Eagle Mine and Humboldt Mill's harshest critics.
We think the upcoming forums will be another great chance to learn more about the company's latest initiatives and transitional progress from construction to operation at the mine.
We urge proponents and opponents to attend one or more of the forums to voice opinions and learn more.
All of the forums will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and are scheduled for Tuesday in Big Bay; Wednesday at the Michigamme Township Hall in Michigamme; Sept. 17 at the Humboldt Township Hall in Champion; Sept. 24 at the Ramada Inn in Marquette and Sept. 26 at the American Legion Hall in L'Anse.
See you there.
