To the Journal editor:
Coach Nelson coached more than basketball during my two years. I played for him in Negaunee. He challenged us all every day to grow as players and people.
Practices were hard, but I had more fun in that gym than anywhere else and I was in the best shape of my life. While my basketball skills may not have progressed as I would have liked, the constant striving to improve and competitive spirit he asked of us helped me immensely with the challenges I continue to face in school and jobs.
Schools do so little for long-time employees. Letters just don't cut it. Coach, you have my thanks and appreciation for all the time you put in and lessons you have taught me.
Remember your players, team camps, bus rides, games, practices and funny stories.
We do.
