MARQUETTE - A 28-year-old Marquette man has been arraigned on criminal sexual conduct charges allegedly involving a 12-year-old boy.
The Marquette City Police Department reported that it was determined last week that Axel Gabriel Acevedo was a sex offender living in Marquette who had not registered his address. Acevedo was living in the same residence as the alleged victim.
Police said that after notifying Acevedo and the other residents of his sex offender status, the boy's mother notified the department that she believed her son had been assaulted by Acevedo.

After conducting interviews on Wednesday, police arrested Acevedo Thursday and executed a search warrant at his residence. Northern Michigan University Public Safety assisted during the investigation, which is ongoing.
Police said they are investigating the possibility there were additional victims.
Acevedo was charged with one count each of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct (person under 13, defendant 17 years of age or older) and one count of accosting children for immoral purposes.
Acevedo was arraigned Friday and is lodged in the Marquette County Jail, where he is being held on a $650,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear Friday for a preliminary hearing in Marquette County District Court.
