Pickard, Noble earn FC Marquette Red Bulls honors, Killer Bananas squash opposition

MARQUETTE - Eli Pickard scored the opening goal and was named offensive player of the game as the FC Marquette Red Bulls Under-12 soccer team doubled up the Escanaba Sharp-Shins 4-2 Tuesday at the Silver Creek field.

Also scoring for Marquette was Brenden Lindgren, Zac Holm and Thayer Yates, while Lindgren and Ethan Martysz picked up assists.

Ben Noble in the first half and Riley Lindberg in the second half each made two saves to preserve the victory, one of Noble's coming on a penalty kick to earn him defensive player of the game honors.

Next up for the Red Bulls are games in Stevens Point, Wis., on Saturday and Sunday.

U12 coed

MARQUETTE - The Killer Bananas scored two close wins in Superiorland Soccer Under-12 Coed League action.

The yellow jerseys edged the Troopers, 6-5, as Colin Gaffney scored four times with additional goals from teammates Isaac Johnson and Joe Elmhirst. For the Troopers, Michael Verlinden, Austin Swetich and Sterling Wright scored.

In the Killer B's other win, a 5-3 triumph over Lime Green, Gaffney, Cooper Smith and Drew Thomas scored for the winners.
