Buck’s, Iracore still perfect in Class A of Iron Range Women’s Softball League

NEGAUNEE - Buck's Party Store and Iracore took different routes to keep their perfect records intact in Class A of the Iron Range Women's Softball League last week.

Buck's pulled off a 3-0 shutout of Congress as the winners' Jamie Conradson was 2 for 2, Kathy Hill 2 of 3 and Debbie Zummak tripled. Congress couldn't score despite 2-of-3 nights from Tina Nelson and Michelle Turri.

Iracore outslugged Jasper Ridge Brewery 1, 19-8, as Courtney Waara and Meagan Petros led their team to victory with 3-of-3 performances. Waara included a double and triple in her output while Petros had a triple. For Jasper, Toni Enrietti, who homered, and Mindy Nardi also went 3 for 3.

In another Class A game, Hickey's edged Jubilee Foods, 21-20, as Hickey's Deannna Makela homered and Jubilee's Loretta Waananen tripled.

Teepee Bar undermined Cliffs Natural Resources, 16-1, as the winners' Trudy Duquette and Jen Laurila were 4 for 4, Jo Beth Williams 3 for 3 and Michelle McCann 3 for 4. Cliffs got its run when Julie Boule crossed the plate.

Paradise Bar nipped Crossfit 906, 18-16, as Rachel Hytinen and Lisa Niemi each went 3 for 4 for Paradise. Hytinen included a triple and double while Niemi doubled. Crossfit's Katie Richer went 4 for 4 and Traci Sundberg 3 for 4.

PC Medic outraced Rookies Too/Quality Car Care, 18-8, as the victors' Megan Reilly was 4 of 5 with a homer and R/Q's Kim Roose was 3 for 3.

In Class B, VFW scored its first victory this season with a 17-8 win over Company B Graphics. The VFW's Brandee Korpi, who tripled, and Jess Ayotte each went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. CBG's Shana Caliguri was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three runs, while teammate Joanna Smail was also 3 for 3 with a double.

Sister's powered to a 13-6 win over Dave's Collision as the winners' Rylee Whitford hit a grand slam and triple and Jesse Rosten homered. Dave's Kris Poirier was 3 for 3 and Linda Denofre 2 for 3.

Tino's 2 joined Sister's with an unblemished record by beating Willey's Tire Shop, 20-3. Angie Vidlund cracked two home runs for Tino's while teammates Marina Nault and Amber Japp had one roundtripper apiece.

Signs Unlimited bounced Jasper Ridge Brewery 2, 19-9, as Jess Koski and Bethy Collins homered for Signs and Jamie Pennel was 4 for 4 with her own homer for Jasper.

U.P. Off Road & Performance whipped Pasquali's, 20-6, as the winners' Jessica Collins was 4 for 5 with a homer and Ashlee Wilkinson was 3 for 4 with two triples.

Jack's Teepee downed U.P. Rehab Services, 18-7, as Jack's Christy Connors hit a grand slam, Tina Maki a regular homer and teammate Gabby Croley one of each.

In Class C, Wooden Nickel stayed atop the standings with a hard-fought 9-5 win over Jean Kay's. Kelley Baskey collected two doubles for the winners while Lauren Marshall was 3 for 4 with a double for Jean Kay's.

Martin Sports Apparel wore out Chapper's Pub, 17-2, as Victoria Powelson was 3 for 3 with a homer and double for the winners. Teammate Kerrie Meyers was 2 for 4 with a homer and Rachel Nicolas was 3 for 4. Chapper's Carley Madgwick and Jessica Juchimich each went 3 for 3.

Palomaki Family Chiropractic twisted U.P. Fabricating, 19-7, as the winners' Mary Aho was 4 for 4 and Jenn Quayle and Mallory Pruett each doubled. UPF's Rachel Mager, who collected two RBIs, and Brianna Salmela each tripled.

Eastwood got by Negaunee Eagles, 16-11, as Ellen Sundberg, who homered, and Amy Bazzinette each went 4 for 4 for the winners and Micailly Carlson homered for the Eagles.

Rookie's 1 snuck past Country Lanes, 24-23, as April Walilmaa was 4 for 4 for Rookie's, as was Rachel Scott, who homered, and Jordan Wixtrom for Country.
