MARQUETTE - The setting is idyllic and the mix of bands is eclectic, making the Rockin' The Bay Music Festival one of the special weekends of music in the Upper Peninsula every summer.

"We are excited to have a great lineup for the fourth annual Rockin' The Bay Music Festival," said Craig Johnson, festival organizer. "We are lucky to have some of the region's premier bands coming to Gladstone to perform."

This year's Rockin' The Bay event is set for June 15-16, as always at the Gladstone Yacht Club, which is located on beautiful Little Bay de Noc, on Lake Michigan's north shore. The music starts at 5 p.m. Friday, June 15 and at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16.

Johnson, who also is manager of the yacht club, said this year's musical list is a mix of returnees and newcomers.

"Returning this year will be fan favorites Greg Waters and The Broad Street Boogie from Appleton, Wis., U.P. native and Minneapolis-based Erik Koskinen band and local party favorites Uncle Ugly," Johnson said. "We have two Marquette bands, Michael Hozz and Travis and the St. Lou's, as well as Bad Munkee from Gladstone.

"The bands will offer a little of everything from folk to blues to cover tunes," Johnson said. "It's an eclectic lineup and should offer something to please everyone. We look forward to a great weekend of music for a great cause."

While Rockin' The Bay has become a favorite event for many U.P. residents, it's still evolving, Johnson said.

"This is our fourth year hosting the festival and we have grown every year," he said. "We have upgraded our lineup this year and hope that we can continue to grow. Our area needs these types of events and they can only happen if people come out."

Gladstone has a strong tradition of producing quality wrestlers and this festival has those youth in mind.

"The event is a fundraiser for the high school and youth wrestling program in Gladstone," Johnson said. "The support is greatly appreciated by the young athletes. We hope you can come out and enjoy the great music, food and drinks on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. It's all for a great cause and it should be an awesome weekend."
