MANISTIQUE - A Gwinn man accused of striking a Schoolcraft County deputy with a snowmobile while fleeing from law officers last month was bound over to Schoolcraft County Circuit Court Monday.
Dawson Gray, 19, was among three snowmobilers accused of fleeing the scene when sheriff's deputies attempted to stop the trio for minor violations on a trail in Hiawatha Township on Jan. 21.
Gray's snowmobile allegedly struck deputy Mallory Nelson, who was treated for minor injuries at the hospital.
Gray is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, assaulting/resisting/obstructing causing injury to a police officer, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, fleeing and eluding on a snowmobile and as a a habitual offender.
The other two snowmobilers are Stephen Combs, 39, and Terry Park, 33, both of Marquette. Following their arrests, they posted bond and were released from police custody.
Combs is charged with failing to stop for a police officer on a snowmobile, fleeing and eluding police on a snowmobile, reckless operation on a snowmobile, and failing to display a trial permit.
Park is charged with refusing to take a preliminary breath test on a snowmobile.
They are scheduled to appear for preliminary examinations in district court on Feb. 22.
Dawson was lodged in the county jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash or surety bond. His bond was later reduced at his preliminary examination in district court. He was released from jail Monday after posting $2,000, or 10 percent of a $20,000 bond.
During his preliminary hearing, Dawson was bound over to the higher court, where he can make a plea or be tried on charges.
