NEGAUNEE - A possible explosion destroyed a Negaunee Township home Friday afternoon.
The Negaunee Township Fire Department was called to the home on Quarry Road off of County Road 492, responding to a fire that began between 2:30 and 3 p.m.
"We were told there was a structure fire with a possible explosion," said township fire chief Jeff Kontio.

No one was home at the time of the incident and the blaze was called in by a passerby who noticed the smoke.
Kontio said when fire personnel arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flame. No injuries were reported to either firemen or pets who were in the area at the time.
No cause has been determined for the blaze. Also responding to the fire were the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Negaunee City Fire Department and Marquette County Rescue Unit 131.
