Transition has been smooth one

NEGAUNEE - Kristy Basolo said Carol Kellow will be missed.

Basolo, Negaunee Senior Center coordinator, said Kellow, the center's social worker, has made a huge difference in many lives through the years.

"We are trying to be very up front with the information that Carol is leaving. Our seniors have grown to trust her so much and they don't like the idea of her not being here," Basolo said. "Carol knows so much about our seniors and about the center. I hope I ask her all the right questions before she leaves."

Basolo said that through the years, as the center has changed directors, Kellow has served as the steadying presence.

"Carol has been invaluable keeping things going here," Basolo said. "And she's reminded me of things that they used to do here, like day trips and dances, that we are now doing again."

New social worker Kathleen Bengston is working with Kellow this month to make the transition smooth.

Kellow will be honored with a retirement party at 4 p.m. April 29 at the center. Tickets for the event, which includes a lasagna dinner, are $5 and must be purchased in advance.
