MARQUETTE - While the rest of us Yoopers are battening down for winter's onslaught, Adam Whittington is enjoying some time in sunny California.
The 19-year-old Ishpeming singer-songwriter headed out west a few weeks ago but he isn't just lollygagging around in the sunshine.

"I am here doing some shows and booking shows for the rest of 2010 and into 2011," Whittington said in an e-mail interview. "I was also invited by a producer of an online Web show to appear on the show for an interview. He is also helping me promote my new single, 'Rush Inside,' which was released on iTunes Oct. 26th."
The interview on "ACTV" hosted by Adam Caravella can be viewed at livestream.com/ACTVhollywood.
Whittington's new single "Rush Inside" can be heard on several local radio stations and can be purchased on iTunes as well.
In October, Whittington did concerts at Encore Performing Arts Center in Hesperia, Calif., receiving an enthusiastic welcome from the California crowd.
"The concerts are going very well," Whittington said. "I've had a great time and am really glad that everyone is enjoying them here. The original plan was to have a few of my dancers (from the Upper Peninsula) fly here, but due to schedules and a couple of other circumstances, it didn't work out. We are hoping to get them here sometime in the future though."
Whittington's not alone on the trip to the West Coast, however.
"My mom (Teresa) who is currently managing me is here, along with my brother, Joshua, for support," Whittington said. "We've been enjoying the California weather and visiting with friends."
The trip has had the bonus of spending time with his family members, but it's also another important step in the young artist's career.
"I've been recording in a couple of different studios and can't wait for everyone to hear these songs," Whittington said. "I've recorded two so far and am hoping to record a few more while I am here. I've had a great time working with everyone."
Whittington has been an exploding star in the local music scene. He's done a number of packed-house concerts over the past year and was voted "Upper Michigan's Favorite Local Act" by listeners of WMQT-Q107 radio recently.
In May 2009, he released "To You," a CD recorded in part at Redfella Studios in Marquette and in part at his Ishpeming home. He's working hard on his next release.
"My goals right now are to finish working on my next CD and to continue to working on booking shows," Whittington said. He keeps his fans updated through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The Whittingtons don't have an exact plan for when they'll return to the U.P.
"We don't have a specific date," he said. "But we are planning to come back some time before Thanksgiving."
