Snyder, Bernero spar over who can best add jobs

October 28, 2010
By KATHY BARKS HOFFMAN AP Political Writer

LANSING (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero says General Motors' decision to add 600 jobs to its downtown Lansing plant proves he knows how to bring jobs to the state.

Bernero joined Gov. Jennifer Granholm and General Motors Co. officials Thursday for the announcement that the Lansing Grand River assembly plant will build the new Cadillac ATS, a compact version of the Cadillac CTS luxury car.

He has attracted more than 6,000 jobs to the Lansing area during his five years as Lansing mayor and says that proves he could do the same as governor.

Republican Rick Snyder says Bernero can't match his experience in the business world. He says his knowledge as a former Gateway Inc. president and venture capitalist in Ann Arbor is what will turn the state around.
