Candidates face off during forum

MARQUETTE — Eight candidates who are on the Nov. 2 ballot participated in a Thursday night forum on issues affecting today’s children and families. The forum, sponsored and moderated by the Upper Peninsula Children’s Coalition and the American Association of University Women, drew candidates and concerned citizens to the Community Room at Peter White Public Library. Attending the forum were, from the 1st Congressional District, Dan Benishek, R-Iron River; from the 37th Senate District, Bob Carr, D-Mackinac Island; from the 38th Senate District, Mike Lahti, D-Hancock, and Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba; from the 108th state House district, Judy Nerat, D-Wallace, and Ed McBroom, R-Vulcan; and from the 109th state House District, Steve Lindberg, D-Marquette, and John Brock, R-Munising. No candidates were present from the 107th state House district or the 110th state House district.
