Ishpeming kids make ‘Lemonade’

March 28, 2010

ISHPEMING — It’s not quite summer, but kids at the C.L. Phelps Middle School and Birchview Elementary School in Ishpeming have gotten their fill of lemonade.
Fifth grade music students from Phelps recently put on the play “Lemonade” by John Jacobson as their quarterly musical for the Birchview students, but this wasn’t just any play.
In addition to the play, the fifth graders also conducted a fundraiser for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation — which was started in 2000 by Alex Scott, a young girl struggling with cancer. Although Scott died in 2004 at the age of 8, her foundation has gone on to raise millions of dollars for childhood cancer research.
