Greener gift giving possible

MARQUETTE - Holiday shopping usually means busy times for stores and lots of presents under the tree, but it also means a big increase in paper and plastic that is tossed into landfills.

Whether from extra shopping bags or the cardboard, plastic or styrofoam packaging that encases many Christmas gifts, the holiday season often results in waste that serves no more purpose than to be ripped apart and later thrown away.

There are, however, a lot of gift giving options that can help eliminate much of that extra waste.
