ISHPEMING - Several Westwood High School students participated and received ratings in the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association District Solo and Ensemble festival held Feb. 7 at L'Anse High School.

Solo and ensemble students at this level are required to perform a prepared piece as a solo or small ensemble and are rated on a scale of 1-5. All students who received a "1" rating are eligible to perform at the MSBOA state festival at Escanaba High School on March 28.

Performing solos, and all receiving a rating of 1, were Patrick Bradley, baritone; Brett Garrett, alto sax; Kimberly Grigg, clarinet; Laura Simula, flute; and Brooke Tarvainen, clarinet.

Ensemble performers include Patrick Bradley, Jason Hawkins, Jared Axford and Zach French, tuba quartet, 1 rating; Natalie Still and Jaclyn Holli, flute duet, 2 rating; and Laura Simula and Brooke Tarvainen, flute/clarinet duo, 2 rating.
