Willig is merit semifinalist

Gwinn High School senior Alexander Willig was named a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist. He is among about 16,000 students nationwide who are eligible to continue in the competition for about 8,200 National Merit Scholarships.
The son of John and Leslie Willig of Gwinn, he is planning to attend Michigan Tech University after high school to major in chemical engineering. While attending GHS, he has participated in football and basketball and is currently captain of the school's High School Bowl team.
Scholarship winners will be announced between April and July.
