MARQUETTE — When Kim Danielson opened up Babycakes Muffin Company more than 20 years ago, downtown Marquette looked very different. “When we first opened up there were many vacant store fronts in the downtown area, particularly on Washington Street,” she said. “And, if you ask me, I think downtown Marquette looks fabulous now. It’s very vibrant.” The one thing that hasn’t changed? Babycakes has made the same five muffins every day since it opened. “Sour cream chocolate chip, blueberry, apple crunch, oat bran and the bran date nut,” Danielson. “We make those every single day and have for 20 years. And the reason we do is because those are our most popular.” Babycakes started out serving just muffins and coffee and has evolved over the years and started serving soups, sandwiches and other baked goods. Danielson said a lot of items on the menu were suggested by customer.
