MARQUETTE — Dead River Coffee found a better location for its customers in 2008. On Memorial Day the coffee shop moved from Washington Street to Baraga Avenue right next to the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum. “This is a more pleasant space,” said owner Theo McCracken. “We got the windows, a better view out front, more convenient parking.” He added that Baraga Avenue is booming with an expanded Marquette Food Co-op down the street, an eco-friendly flower shop across from his coffee shop and the new location of the Marquette County Historical Museum on the corner of Baraga Avenue and Third Street. “The children’s museum provides a different kind of draw,” McCracken said. “I think I’m seeing more new faces.” Housed in a space rented from the museum, Dead River Coffee offers freshly roasted coffee, fine teas, pies, cheesecakes, soups and other foods. In the future, McCracken will also offer sandwiches, he said.
