Founders Landing development to begin after seven-year wait

MARQUETTE — The nearly seven year wait for development at Founders Landing is scheduled to begin in March. The Landing Development Group, which purchased the middle parcel of the lake-front property from the city of Marquette for over $1 million in Sept. 2008, has proposed a five-building, 36-unit row of townhomes on the parcel. The Founders Landing property, currently vacant land, is bordered by Lakeshore Boulevard and Front Street, which overlooks the property at the top of a steep hill. Barry Polzin, architect and one of the partners in the group, said one of the most important aspects of the project’s design was to maintain as many views to Lake Superior as possible. “The first two buildings on the south end of the development are actually just two stories so they’ll stay down below the level of Front Street so they won’t interrupt that view,” Polzin said.
