Manager search in Negaunee

March 12, 2010

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee City Council is beginning its search for a new city manager. The council voted to sit down with a representative from the Michigan Municipal League at a special meeting next week to learn about services offered by the MML for cities looking for a city manager. The meeting date was not set at Thursday’s meeting, but will be announced when the schedules of the MML representative and the council are worked out. “We have a busy year coming up and we’re going to need the services of a qualified manager as soon as possible,” said Councilman Michael Van Straten. The council will also need to have a discussion on what the city is looking for in a new manager, including salary, education requirements and job description. “If this council hasn’t had that conversation first, how are we going to ask somebody to search for a manager for us when we don’t know what we want as a council, as a community?” asked Councilman Peter Dompierr.
