MARQUETTE — The 42-year-old Lexington, Kentucky, woman who was injured at Little Presque Isle in Marquette Township on Thursday has died.

According to a Michigan State Police Negaunee Post news release issued Friday, the woman, identified as Yookyung Leemazzoni, was pronounced dead at the UP Health System-Marquette Intensive Care Unit early Friday morning.

Yookyung was snorkeling with her family at Little Presque Isle Beach at about 2:50 p.m. Thursday when witnesses say she went under water and did not return to the surface.

After about 5 minutes of searching, other beachgoers located Leemazzoni and CPR was initiated by a nurse from downstate Jackson prior to the arrival of first responders on the scene.
